Question 244 of 308

A projectile is launched at an angle α\alpha with the horizontal with a velocity 20ms−120{ms}^{-1}. After 10s10s, its inclination with horizontal is β\beta. The value of tan⁡β\tan \beta will be : (g=10ms−2)\left(g=10{ms}^{-2}\right).

Show answer and solution

Answer: (B) tan⁡α−5sec⁡α\tan \alpha -5\sec \alpha

Component of velocity in horizontal direction,

vx=20cos⁡α=v2cos⁡β{v}_{x}=20\cos \alpha ={v}_{2}\cos \beta
Component of velocity in vertical direction,

vy=20sin⁡α−g×10=v2sin⁡β{v}_{y}=20\sin \alpha -g\times 10={v}_{2}\sin \beta
⇒tan⁡β=20sin⁡α−10020cos⁡α\Rightarrow \tan \beta =\dfrac{20\sin \alpha -100}{20\cos \alpha }
⇒tan⁡β=tan⁡α−5cos⁡α\Rightarrow \tan \beta =\tan \alpha -\dfrac{5}{\cos \alpha }
⇒tan⁡β=tan⁡α−5sec⁡α\Rightarrow \tan \beta =\tan \alpha -5\sec \alpha
