Question 245 of 308

A fighter jet is flying horizontally at a certain altitude with a speed of 200ms−1200{ms}^{-1}. When it passes directly overhead an anti-aircraft gun, a bullet is fired from the gun, at an angle θ\theta with the horizontal, to hit the jet. If the bullet speed is 400ms−1400m{s}^{-1}, the value of θ\theta will be _____ ∘^{\circ}.

Show answer and solution

Answer: 60

In order to hit, horizontal velocity of both moving object should be same,

V1=V2cos⁡θ{V}_{1}={V}_{2}\cos \theta ⇒200=400cos⁡θ\Rightarrow 200=400\cos \theta
⇒cos⁡θ=12⇒θ=60∘\Rightarrow \cos \theta =\dfrac{1}{2}\Rightarrow \theta =60^{\circ}
