Question 270 of 308

A projectile is given an initial velocity of (i^+2j^)ms−1\left(\hat{i}+2\hat{j}\right)m{s}^{-1}, where i^\hat{\text{i}} is along the ground and j^\hat{\text{j}} is along the vertical upward. If g=10ms−2g=10m{s}^{-2}, the equation of its trajectory is :

Show answer and solution

Answer: (D) y=2x−5x2y=2x-5{x}^{2}

v⃗=i^+2j^\vec{\text{v}}=\hat{\text{i}}+2\hat{\text{j}}

⇒x=t\Rightarrow \text{x}=\text{t} ..... (i)

y=2t−12(10t2)\text{y}=2\text{t}-\dfrac{1}{2}\left(10{\text{t}}^{2}\right) ..... (ii)

From (i) and (ii)

y=2x−5x2\text{y}=2\text{x}-5{\text{x}}^{2}
