Question 271 of 308

A boy can throw a stone up to a maximum height of 10 m10 \mathrm{~m}. The maximum horizontal distance that the boy can throw the same stone up to will be

Show answer and solution

Answer: (D) 20 m20 \mathrm{~m}

maximum vertical height =u22g=10 m=\frac{u^2}{2 g}=10 \mathrm{~m}
Horizontal range of a projectile
=u2sin⁡2θg=\frac{u^2 \sin 2 \theta}{\mathrm{g}}
Range is maximum when
θ=45∘\theta=45^{\circ}
Maximum horizontal range
=u2 g=\frac{\mathrm{u}^2}{\mathrm{~g}}
Hence maximum horizontal distance
=20 m=20 \mathrm{~m}.
