Question 131 of 280

A force of 40 N40 \mathrm{~N} acts on a point B\mathrm{B} at the end of an L-shaped object, as shown in the figure. The angle θ\theta that will produce maximum moment of the force about point A\mathrm{A} is given by:

Show answer and solution

Answer: (C) tan⁡θ=12\tan \theta=\frac{1}{2}

To produce maximum moment of force line of action of force must be perpendicular to line AB\mathrm{AB}.

∴tan⁡θ=24=12\therefore \tan \theta=\frac{2}{4}=\frac{1}{2}
