Question 36 of 126

A non-isotropic solid metal cube has coefficients of linear expansion as: 5×10−5/oC5\times {10}^{-5}/{}^{\text{o}}\text{C} along the x-axis and 5×10−6/oC5\times {10}^{-6}/{}^{\text{o}}\text{C} along the y and the z-axis. If the coefficient of volume expansion of the solid is C×10−6/oC\text{C}\times {10}^{-6}/{}^{\text{o}}\text{C} then the value of CC is _____________

Show answer and solution

Answer: 60

V=2α2+α1V=2{\alpha }_{2}+{\alpha }_{1}
=10×10−6+5×10−5=10\times {10}^{-6}+5\times {10}^{-5}
=60×10−6/oC=60\times {10}^{-6}/{}^{\text{o}}\text{C}
