Question 91 of 190

A diatomic gas (γ=1.4)(\gamma =1.4) does 200J200J of work when it is expanded isobarically. The heat given to the gas in the process is :

Show answer and solution

Answer: (D) 700J700J

For degree of freedom, we can write
γ=1+2f=1.4⇒2f=0.4\gamma =1+\dfrac{2}{f}=1.4 \Rightarrow \dfrac{2}{f}=0.4
⇒f=5\Rightarrow f=5
For isobaric process,
W=nRΔT=200JW=nR\Delta T=200J.
Now, we can write

Q=(f+22)nRΔTQ=\left(\dfrac{f+2}{2}\right)nR\Delta T
=72×200=700J=\dfrac{7}{2}\times 200=700J
