Question 156 of 191

Two point white dots are 1 mm1 \mathrm{~mm} apart on a black paper. They are viewed by eye of pupil diameter 3 mm3 \mathrm{~mm}. Approximately, what is the maximum distance at which these dots can be resolved by the eye? [ Take wavelength of light =500 nm=500 \mathrm{~nm} ]

Show answer and solution

Answer: (A) 5 m5 \mathrm{~m}

1.22λ(3 mm)=\frac{1.22 \lambda}{(3 \mathrm{~mm})}= Re solution limit =(1 mm)R=\frac{(1 \mathrm{~mm})}{\mathrm{R}}
∴R=5 m\therefore \mathrm{R}=5 \mathrm{~m}
