Question 3 of 311

Two concentric conducting spherical shells of radii R1R_1 and R2R_2 (R1<R2R_1 < R_2) carry charges q1q_1 and q2q_2. Electric field in region R1<r<R2R_1 < r < R_2 is:

Show answer and solution

Answer: (B) 14πε0q1r2\frac{1}{4\pi\varepsilon_0} \frac{q_1}{r^2}

By Gauss's Law, the Gaussian sphere of radius rr encloses only charge q1q_1. Thus E(r)=14πε0q1r2E(r) = \frac{1}{4\pi\varepsilon_0} \frac{q_1}{r^2}.
