Question 3 of 194

A horizontal spring-mass system with m=2 kgm=2\,\text{kg} and k=200 N/mk=200\,\text{N/m} oscillates with amplitude 0.1 m0.1\,\text{m}. Maximum speed of mass is:

Show answer and solution

Answer: (D) 1.0 m/s1.0\,\text{m/s}

ω=k/m=200/2=10 rad/s\omega = \sqrt{k/m} = \sqrt{200/2} = 10\,\text{rad/s}. vmax=Aω=0.1×10=1.0 m/sv_{max} = A \omega = 0.1 \times 10 = 1.0\,\text{m/s}.
