Question 144 of 190

When the rms voltages VL,VC{V}_{L}, {V}_{C} and VR{V}_{R} are measured respectively across the inductor L,L, the capacitor CC and the resistor RR in a series LCRLCR circuit connected to an ACAC source, it is found that the ratio VL:VC:VR=1:2:3.{V}_{L}:{V}_{C}:{V}_{R}=1:2:3. If the rms voltage of the ACAC source is 100V,100V, then VR{V}_{R} is close to :

Show answer and solution

Answer: (D) 90V90V

VL:VC:VR=1:2:3{V}_{L}:{V}_{C}:{V}_{R}=1:2:3

Vrms=100V{V}_{\text{rms}}=100 \text{V} then VR=?{V}_{R}=?

Let
VL=x,{V}_{L}=x, then VC=2x{V}_{C}=2x and VR=3x{V}_{R}=3x

using
V=VR2+(Vc−VL)2V=\sqrt{{V}_{R}^{2}+{({V}_{c}-{V}_{L})}^{2}}
100=(3x)2+(2x−x)2100=\sqrt{{\left(3x\right)}^{2}+{\left(2x-x\right)}^{2}}

100=10x2100=\sqrt{10{x}^{2}}

x=10010x=\dfrac{100}{\sqrt{10}} =1010=10\sqrt{10}

∴VR=3x∴{V}_{R}=3x=3010≈90V=30\sqrt{10}\approx 90V
