Question 35 of 380

Suppose the drift velocity vd{v}_{d} in a material varied with the applied electric field E as vd∝E{v}_{d}\propto \sqrt{E}. Then V−IV-I graph for a wire made of such a material is best given by:

Show answer and solution

Answer: (C)

We know that vd=kE{v}_{d}=k\sqrt{E} and I=neAvdI=neA{v}_{d},

⇒I=neAkE\Rightarrow I=neAk\sqrt{E}∵∵E=Vd⇒I=neAkVdE=\dfrac{V}{d}\Rightarrow I=neAk\sqrt{\dfrac{V}{d}}
⇒I∝V⇒V∝I2\Rightarrow I\propto \sqrt{V}\Rightarrow V\propto {I}^{2}. So,
