Question 55 of 380

Given below are two statements:
Statement I : The equivalent resistance of resistors in a series combination is smaller than least resistance used in the combination.

Statement II : The resistivity of the material is independent of temperature. In the light of the above statements, choose the correct answer from the options given below:

Show answer and solution

Answer: (A) Both Statement II and Statement IIII are false

The formula for series equivalent resistance is given by
Rs=R1+R2+......+Rn{R}_{s}={R}_{1}+{R}_{2}+......+{R}_{n}.
Hence, the equivalent resistance will be the highest value compared to other resistances.

The resistivity of a material is given by,

ρ=ρ0(1+αΔT)\rho ={\rho }^{0}\left(1+\alpha \Delta T\right)
Clearly, the resistivity is dependant on temperature.

Hence, this is the right option.
