Question 128 of 380

Two resistors are connected in series across a battery as shown in figure. If a voltmeter of resistance 2000Ω2000\Omega is used to measure the potential difference across 500Ω500\Omega resister, the reading of the voltmeter will be _____ VV

Show answer and solution

Answer: 8

The voltmeter resistance is given to be
2000Ω2000\Omega. The equivalent resistance in the given circuit is Req=500×20002000+500+600=1000Ω{R}_{eq}=\dfrac{500\times 2000}{2000+500}+600=1000\Omega.
Now, current in the circuit is
i=201000Ai=\dfrac{20}{1000}A.
Reading of the voltmeter will be,
V=20−600×201000=8VV=20-600\times \dfrac{20}{1000}=8V
