Question 175 of 380

Two cells are connected in opposition as shown. Cell E1{E}_{1} is of 8V8V emf and 2Ω2\Omega internal resistance; the cell E2{E}_{2} is of 2V2V emf and 4Ω4\Omega internal resistance. The terminal potential difference of cell E2{E}_{2} is ______ VV.

Show answer and solution

Answer: 6

Current in circuit,
I=8−22+4=66=1AI=\dfrac{8-2}{2+4}=\dfrac{6}{6}=1A
Applying Kirchhoff's law from
CC to BB,
VC−2−4×1=VB{V}_{C}-2-4\times 1={V}_{B}
⇒VC−VB=6V\Rightarrow {V}_{C}-{V}_{B}=6V
