Question 255 of 380

Two electric bulbs, rated at (25W,220V)\left(25W,220V\right) and (100W,220V),\left(100W,220V\right), are connected in series across a 220V220\text{V} voltage source. If the 25W25W and 100W100W bulbs draw powers P1{P}_{1} and P2{P}_{2} respectively, then:

Show answer and solution

Answer: (D) P1=16W,P2=4W{P}_{1}=16W,{P}_{2}=4W

R1=V2P=220×22025=44×44{R}_{1}=\dfrac{{V}^{2}}{P}=\dfrac{220\times 220}{25}=44\times 44

R2=220×220100=22×22{R}_{2}=\dfrac{220\times 220}{100}=22\times 22

As resistance are in series current through them will be same.

P1P2=i2R1i2R2=44×4422×22=41\dfrac{{P}_{1}}{{P}_{2}}=\dfrac{{i}^{2}{R}_{1}}{{i}^{2}{R}_{2}}=\dfrac{44\times 44}{22\times 22}=\dfrac{4}{1}
Therefore, among the given options, the option matching is
P1=16W,P2=4W{P}_{1}=16W,{P}_{2}=4W
