Question 344 of 380

If nn represents the actual number of deflections in a converted galvanometer of resistance GG and shunt resistance SS. Then the total current II when its figure of merit is KK will be

Show answer and solution

Answer: (D) nK(G+S)S\dfrac{nK\left(G+S\right)}{S}

Let current through galvanometer be IG{I}_{G} and current through shunt resistance be I−IGI-{I}_{G}.

Given figure of merit
K=IGnK=\dfrac{{I}_{G}}{n}
Then, total current,
I=IG(G+S)SI=\dfrac{{I}_{G}\left(G+S\right)}{S}
I=nK(G+S)SI=\dfrac{nK\left(G+S\right)}{S}
