Question 37 of 223

Consider two solid spheres of radii R1=1m{R}_{1}=1m,R2=2m{R}_{2}=2m and masses M1{M}_{1} and M2,{M}_{2}, respectively. The gravitational field due to sphere (1)\left(1\right) and (2)\left(2\right) are shown. The value of M1M2\dfrac{{M}_{1}}{{M}_{2}} is:

Show answer and solution

Answer: (B) 16\dfrac{1}{6}

3=GM2223=\dfrac{G{M}_{2}}{{2}^{2}}
2=GM1122=\dfrac{G{M}_{1}}{{1}^{2}}
∴32=14M2M1∴\dfrac{3}{2}=\dfrac{1}{4}\dfrac{{M}_{2}}{{M}_{1}}
M1M2=16\dfrac{{M}_{1}}{{M}_{2}}=\dfrac{1}{6}
