Question 92 of 223

Suppose that the angular velocity of rotation of the Earth is increased. Then, as a consequence,

Show answer and solution

Answer: (C) except at poles, weight of the object on the earth, will decrease.

Effective acceleration due to gravity, g′=g−ω2Rcos⁡2⁡ϕ{g}^{'}=g-{\omega }^{2}R{\cos }^{2}⁡\phi, where ϕ\phi is latitude. There will be no change in gravity at poles as ϕ=90o\phi ={90}^{o}. At other points as ω\omega increases, g′g' will decrease.
