Question 120 of 223

Two satellites AA and BB move round the earth in the same orbit. The mass of AA is twice the mass of BB. The quantity which is same for the two satellites will be

Show answer and solution

Answer: (A) Speed

The formula to calculate the speed of a satellite while revolving around the Earth is given by
v=GMeR...(1)v=\sqrt{\dfrac{G{M}_{e}}{R}}...\left(1\right)
where,
vv is the speed, GG is the Gravitational constant, Me{M}_{e} is the mass of the Earth, RR is the radius of the orbit.
As can be seen from the equation, speed is independent of mass of satellite.

Hence, the speed of the satellites will be the same.
