Question 132 of 223

A mass of 50kg50kg is placed at the center of a uniform spherical shell of mass 100kg100kg and radius 50m50m. If the gravitational potential at a point, 25m25m from the center is Vkgm−1Vkg{m}^{-1}. The value of VV is:

Show answer and solution

Answer: (C) −4G-4G

Use the formula of the gravitational potential in terms of universal gravitational constant,
V=−GMRV=\dfrac{-GM}{R}⇒Vp=−G(100)50−G(50)25\Rightarrow {V}_{p}=-\dfrac{G(100)}{50}-\dfrac{G(50)}{25}=−4G=-4G.
