Question 97 of 168

Consider two ideal diatomic gases AA and BB at some temperature TT . Molecules of the gas AA are rigid, and have a mass mm . Molecules of the gas BB have an additional vibrational mode and have a mass m4\dfrac{m}{4} . The ratio of the specific heats (CV)Aand(CV)B{\left({C}_{V}^{}\right)}_{A}\text{and}{\left({C}_{V}^{}\right)}_{B} of gas AA and B,B, respectively is:

Show answer and solution

Answer: (D) 5:75:7

Molar heat capacity of AA at constant volume =5R2=\dfrac{5R}{2}
Molar heat capacity of
BB at constant volume =7R2=\dfrac{7R}{2}
Dividing both
(Cv)A(Cv)B=57\dfrac{{\left({C}_{v}\right)}_{A}}{{\left({C}_{v}\right)}_{B}}=\dfrac{5}{7}
