Question 19 of 209

Statement I: By doping silicon semiconductors with pentavalent material, the electrons density increases.
Statement II: The
n−n-type of semiconductor has a net negative charge.
In the above statements, choose the most appropriate answer from the options given below:

Show answer and solution

Answer: (B) Statement I is true but Statement II is false.

Pentavalent material has excess free e−{e}^{-} because we mix the impurities like phosphorus and arsenic having five electrons in the outermost shell. So e−{e}^{-}density increases, but overall semiconductor is neutral. So we can say that Statement I is true but, Statement II is false.
