Question 79 of 209

Given below are two statements:
Statement I :
p−np-n junction diodes can be used to function as a transistor, simply by connecting two diodes, back to back, which acts as the base terminal
Statement II: In the study of transistors, the amplification factor
β\beta indicates ratio of the collector current to the base current.
In the light of the above statements, choose the correct answer from the options given below.

Show answer and solution

Answer: (C) Statement I is false but Statement II is true

S-1 Statement 1 is false because in case of two discrete back to back connected diodes, there are four doped regions instead of three and there is nothing that resembles a thin base region between an emitter and a collector.
S-2 Statement-2 is true, as
β=ICIB\beta =\dfrac{{I}_{C}}{{I}_{B}}
