Question 105 of 209

Figure shows a circuit in which three identical diodes are used. Each diode has forward resistance of 20Ω20 \Omega and infinite backward resistance. Resistors R1=R2=R3=50Ω\mathrm{R}_1=\mathrm{R}_2=\mathrm{R}_3=50 \Omega. Battery voltage is 6 V6 \mathrm{~V}. The current through R3\mathrm{R}_3 is :

Show answer and solution

Answer: (A) 50 mA50 \mathrm{~mA}

Here, diodes D1D_1 and D2D_2 are forward biased and D3\mathrm{D}_3 is reverse biased. Therefore current through R3\mathrm{R}_3
i=VR′=6120=120 A=50 mA\mathrm{i}=\frac{\mathrm{V}}{\mathrm{R}^{\prime}}=\frac{6}{120}=\frac{1}{20} \mathrm{~A}=50 \mathrm{~mA}
