Question 129 of 130

A mass ' mm ' moves with a velocity vv and collides inelastically with another identical mass. After collision the 1st 1^{\text {st }} mass moves with velocity v/3v / \sqrt{3} in a direction perpendicular to the initial direction of motion. Find the speed of the 2nd 2^{\text {nd }} mass after collision

Show answer and solution

Answer: (C) 2v/32 v / \sqrt{3}

mv=mv1cos⁡θm v=m v_1 \cos \theta
0=mv3−mv1sin⁡θ0=\frac{m v}{\sqrt{3}}-m v_1 \sin \theta
∴v1=23v\therefore v_1=\frac{2}{\sqrt{3}} v
