Question 333 of 380

Three voltmeters, all having different internal resistances are joined as shown in figure. When some potential difference is applied across AA and BB, their readings are V1,V2{V}_{1},{V}_{2} and V3{V}_{3}. Choose the correct option.

Show answer and solution

Answer: (D) V1+V2=V3{V}_{1}+{V}_{2}={V}_{3}

Let's consider the following diagram:

According to the Kirchhoff's voltage law, the algebraic sum of the voltages in a closed loop is zero.

From the above figure, it can be written that

V1+V2−V3=0⇒V1+V2=V3{V}_{1}+{V}_{2}-{V}_{3}=0 \Rightarrow {V}_{1}+{V}_{2}={V}_{3}
