Question 39 of 311

Two isolated conducting spheres S1{S}_{1} and S2{S}_{2} of radius 23R\dfrac{2}{3}R and 13R\dfrac{1}{3}R have 12μC12\mu C and −3μC-3\mu C charges, respectively, and are at a large distance from each other, They are now connected by a conducting wire. A long time after this is done the charges on S1{S}_{1} and S2{S}_{2} are respectively:

Show answer and solution

Answer: (D) 6μCand3μC6\mu Cand3\mu C

Total charge =12−3=9μC=12-3=9\mu C
If final charges are
q1{q}_{1} and q2{q}_{2}
q1q2=R1R2=21\dfrac{{q}_{1}}{{q}_{2}}=\dfrac{{R}_{1}}{{R}_{2}}=\dfrac{2}{1}
q1=6μC{q}_{1}=6\mu C
q2=3μC{q}_{2}=3\mu C
