Question 78 of 223

The height of any point PP above the surface of earth is equal to diameter of earth. The value of acceleration due to gravity at point PP will be : (Given g=g=acceleration due to gravity at the surface of earth).

Show answer and solution

Answer: (D) g9\dfrac{g}{9}

Acceleration due to gravity at a height hh from the surface of the Earth,
g′=g1(1+hR)2{g}^{'}=g\dfrac{1}{{\left(1+\dfrac{h}{R}\right)}^{2}}
Given:
h=2Rh=2R
∴g′=g1(1+2)2∴{g}^{'}=g\dfrac{1}{{\left(1+2\right)}^{2}}
or
g′=g9{g}^{'}=\dfrac{g}{9}
