Question 18 of 194

A simple harmonic oscillator has an amplitude AA and time period 6π6\pi second. Assuming the oscillation starts from its mean position, the time required by it to travel fromx=Ax=A to x=32Ax=\dfrac{\sqrt{3}}{2}A will be πxs\dfrac{\pi }{x}s, where x=_______.

Show answer and solution

Answer: 2

From phasor diagram particle has to move from
PP to QQ in a circle of radius equal to amplitude of SHMSHM.
cos⁡ϕ=3A2A=32\cos \phi =\dfrac{\dfrac{\sqrt{3}A}{2}}{A}=\dfrac{\sqrt{3}}{2}
⇒ϕ=π6\Rightarrow \phi =\dfrac{\pi }{6}
Now,
π6=ωt\dfrac{\pi }{6}=\omega t
⇒π6=2πTt\Rightarrow \dfrac{\pi }{6}=\dfrac{2\pi }{T}t
⇒π6=2π6πt\Rightarrow \dfrac{\pi }{6}=\dfrac{2\pi }{6\pi }t
⇒t=π2\Rightarrow t=\dfrac{\pi }{2}
So,
x=2x=2
