Question 101 of 209

The value of the resistor, RS{R}_{S}, needed in the DC voltage regulator circuit shown here, equals:

Show answer and solution

Answer: (D) (Vi−VL)(n+1)IL\dfrac{\left({V}_{i}-{V}_{L}\right)}{\left(n+1\right){I}_{L}}

Across zener diode
VL=constant{V}_{L}=constant

∵Vi=VL+(n+1)ILRS∵{V}_{i}={V}_{L}+\left(n+1\right){I}_{L}{R}_{S}

⇒Vi−VL=(n+1)ILRS\Rightarrow {V}_{i}-{V}_{L}=\left(n+1\right){I}_{L}{R}_{S}

⇒RS=Vi−VL(n+1)IL\Rightarrow {R}_{S}=\dfrac{{V}_{i}-{V}_{L}}{\left(n+1\right){I}_{L}}
